What to Expect

Straightforward, and over quickly

Consultation

For brows, Kate maps the shape against your features before any wax goes on — where the arch should sit, how much to take from underneath, what to leave alone. For other areas, she checks the hair length and skin condition.

Prep

The area is cleansed and prepped so the wax grips hair rather than skin. This step is what makes the difference between uncomfortable and fine.

Wax & Remove

Wax is applied in the direction of growth and removed against it, in sections, with the skin held taut. Held skin is the single biggest factor in how much it stings.

Tweeze & Refine

Strays outside the shape are tweezed individually. On brows this is where the shape is actually finished.

Soothe

A calming product goes on to settle redness. Most facial redness fades within an hour or two.

Before You Book

Good to go if:

Hair is at least a quarter-inch long (about two to three weeks growth)
Skin is intact — no cuts, sunburn, or active breakouts in the area
You have not had a chemical peel or laser in the last two weeks
You can leave the area unshaved between appointments

Reschedule or check with us first if:

You use retinoids, Accutane, or prescription acne treatments — tell us before booking
The area is sunburned or recently tanned
You have an active cold sore (skip lip waxing)
You are on the day before a major event and have never waxed before
You have shaved within the last week — the hair is likely too short

Waxing Aftercare

The first 24 to 48 hours

Skip Heat

No hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, or hot tubs for 24 hours. Open follicles and heat are what cause most post-wax irritation.

Stay Out of the Sun

Freshly waxed skin burns more easily. Keep the area covered or out of direct sun for a day or two, and skip the tanning bed.

No Heavy Products

Avoid makeup, heavy moisturisers, and anything fragranced on a freshly waxed face for the rest of the day. Something simple and unscented is fine.

Exfoliate From Day 3

Gentle exfoliation two or three days later, then a couple of times a week, is the best defence against ingrown hairs before your next appointment.

Do you take walk-ins?

Walk-ins are welcome whenever we have availability — it is always worth calling (989) 673-4699 before you drive in, especially if you are coming from out of town. Booking online is the only way to guarantee a specific time, and it matters most for lash sets and full nail sets, which need a longer block.

How long does hair need to be to wax?

About a quarter of an inch — roughly two to three weeks of growth after shaving. Shorter than that and the wax cannot grip properly, which means patchy results and a wasted appointment. If you are not sure, come in anyway and Kate will tell you honestly whether it is ready.

How long does waxing last?

Three to five weeks for most people, depending on your growth cycle and the area. Brows tend to be at the shorter end, body areas at the longer end. Keeping a consistent schedule gradually stretches the interval, because regrowth gets finer.

Does waxing hurt?

There is a sharp moment, and then it is over. Facial waxing is quicker and milder than most people expect — a brow wax is a few seconds of sensation. It is more noticeable the first time and gets easier with repeat appointments. Avoid caffeine beforehand and do not book during the few days before your period if you are sensitive.

Can I get waxed if I use retinol or acne medication?

Tell us before you book. Retinoids, Accutane, and some prescription acne treatments thin the skin, and waxing over them can lift skin along with hair. Depending on the product and how long you have used it, waxing may need to wait — this is worth a phone call rather than a surprise on the day.

Brow waxing or brow threading — which is better?

Both remove hair from the root and both last a similar length of time. Waxing is faster and leaves skin smoother because it lifts dead surface skin too. Threading is more precise on very fine hair and is often preferred by people who cannot wax for medical reasons. Charming Beauty does brow waxing; the shaping is what matters more than the method.

Can I add waxing to a nail or lash appointment?
